Who Was That!
Amidst all the entertainment that the Super Bowl offers… The Who half time show saddened me. Did I like them? Of course, they are The Who… but to see them… living legends, musical history! To see them wheeled out and giving us a passé version of what is rock and roll history… sad. It reminds me of my own mortality more than any through back rock and roll nostalgia. If you want to remain an entertainer that’s different…
Case in point Robert Plant, instead of dragging his aging carcass around the world with Led Zeppelin, he reinvented himself. He and Alison Krauss found a way for his musical talents to be rejuvenated in one of the greatest CD’s I own… “Raising Sand”… Plant could easily sell out stadiums around the world with Page as Zeppelin… but Plant has more artistic integrity than that. I guess that’s what bothers me about The Who, at half time last night… I saw two old men, who were artists, standing on a well lit extravaganza collecting a pay check… as most of the audience were amazed that these old guys new all the worlds to the CSI themes…
