Shawshank Redemption On The Big Screen? Sign Me Up!

Well coming up on Thursday, we have one of my all time favorite for Jack's Date Night - the Shawshank Redemption with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.
It's funny, when this movie was released theatrically, it only grossed 28 million dollars, which was only 3 million dollars over it's budget, barely breaking even. For some reason, moviegoers stayed away. But once it was released on video and DVD, it took the movie to near mythical proportions, so much so that it was ranked at #1 on the IMDB Top #250 Movies. It is one of the highest grossing rentals of all time.
Some trivia:
- Kevin Costner turned down the the role of Andy Dufresne which went to Tim Robbins, a decision he later strongly regretted.
- Writer/Director Frank Darabont wrote the script in eight weeks.
- The young-looking pictures of Morgan Freeman's character on his parole forms are actually pictures of Freeman's son, Alfonso Freeman
Looking forward to seeing it on the big screen - see you Thursday!
