Rest In Peace, Little General
This is hitting me harder than I thought it would.
What a sad day for Riderville and the CFL.
The legendary Ron Lancaster died today from a second bout with bladder cancer. What a loss. I was fortunate enough to see the Little General play live during the early 70's and he was my favorite player and was a hero to me - I still feel that he was the greatest Rider quarterback that ever took to the field at Taylor Field. Winning the Cup in '66 with the Riders as well as appearing in four others, he was one of the classiest players to ever wear the Green and White. After a slow start as a head coach with the Riders, he went on to win the Grey Cup as a coach in 1993 with Edmonton and with Hamilton in 1999 as well as appearing in two others and winning Coach of the Year honours twice. His analysis as a colour commentator with the CBC was always insightful as well as entertaining. Now he's reunited with the late Don Wittman in the great broadcast booth in the sky.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.
He was a leader, a gentleman, a legend and a hero - he will be greatly missed.

the general
Having grown up in Regina four blocks from Taylor Field and too young to go to the games ($$$) A friend and I used to go to watch them practice and used to watch Lancaster and Ried for hours on end not knowing at the time we were witnessing some of the greatest players in history. AHHH to simpler times. REST IN PEACE RONNIE
