Dammit, this sucks...(WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT)
I've never liked dentists (actually, I don't mind dentists, just what they do). Quite a few years back, I had to get a crown on one of my teeth. Fair enough - better that than a gaping hole at the side of my smile. The crown was done and remained for several years. The last few years it would start popping out every now and again and I've have it re-cemented in. The last time, there's not enough of the original tooth left to cement to, so the crown is now NFG and I had to get what was left of the base of my tooth taken out.
That happened at 3:07pm today.
THIS SUCKS.
Now the graphic part (don't say you weren't warned).
I can't rinse my mouth out for 24 hours, so I'm stuck with this slimy, blood-filled saliva that I don't want to swallow because it tastes like hell (but have to or else I'll drown) and I can't rinse because I don't want to flush the blood clot out of where my tooth used to be and end up with "dry socket" with is a VERY painful thing, I'm told. It's where the blot clot has been loosened and removed (or never formed correctly) and the air gets to the nerve endings in your jaw bone, causing amazing amounts of pain and making you very cranky.
I also can't have a smoke until tomorrow because the negative air pressure upon taking a drag might pull the clot out and give me "dry socket", and I can't have that, never mind that the ingredients in the smoke will irritate the hopefully-forming-quickly clot. I'm a wuss when it comes to pain (ask my lovely bride - she'll confirm). But I'm cranky when I can't have a dart - hmmm, I guess I'll choose cranky over immense pain.
No happy hour drink today, no smoking (!#$%^&@%$*&), nothing better than soup for supper and then soft food only for a couple days, oh, hooray, yippee and yee-haw.
This sucks.
