Some Quick Rock News

Since I'm here, I might as well give you some quick Easter weekend rock news from Real Rock News:

Not long ago, Bon Jovi announced that they were in search of fan-filmed video to include in the state-of-the-art video effects used during their live performances.

Bon Jovi told fans how to submit videos for consideration and the fans have certainly delivered. The problem is that not all the videos are quite what the group had in mind.

As reported by British tabloid Daily Mirror, the group has received more than their share of soft porn videos.

Yes will be taking their show out on the road in front of fans in 26 North American venues this summer to celebrate the group’s 40 year history.

Frontman Jon Anderson will be joined on stage by Chris Squire on bass, Steve Howe on guitar, Alan White on drums and Oliver Wakeman on keyboards. Wakeman is the son of Rick Wakeman who was part of the Yes lineup previously but decided to sit this one out due to medical reasons.

In addition to the tour, there is also talk about a live album to commemorate the band’s 40th anniversary. Details are not yet available, but the album could possibly be released this summer.

The only Canadian tour dates?

July 12 - Quebec City - Quebec City Festival
July 13 - Toronto, ON - Molson Amphitheater
August 14 - Vancouver, BC - General Motors Place

Perhaps one of the reasons the Rolling Stones have managed to stay together so long is that they support each other so well. Recent comments by Keith Richards give a little glimpse behind the scenes at the inner workings of the legendary rock and roll band.

Richards says that Mick Jagger is usually the one who selects what songs the group will perform on tour and even make adjustments to their instruments and set list to accommodate Jagger. He might, for example, decide not to do a particular song because he is not feeling up to hitting high notes at a particular time.

Even though it might sound a little bit like Jagger is the dictator that rules the band, Richards insists that the other members of the group all cooperate willingly in an effort to make Jagger’s job a bit easier.

Richards goes on to say that a band’s job is to make the frontman feel confident. "One for all and all for one," he says.

Two classic rock groups are currently in the lead for the top-earning concert tours in North America.

Bon Jovi occupies the number one spot on the list, with an average ticket price of about $94 and a typical boss office gross of $2,140,537 per city.

In second place is Van Halen, with an average ticket price of about $112 and a typical box office gross of $1,457,801 per city. Not bad, and surely a nice incentive for them to get back on the road next month as planned.

Ozzy Osbourne comes in at number nine on the list and boasts an average ticket price of about $68 and grosses $617,362 per city.

In case you’re wondering who came in third, it’s Hannah Montana, who is also known as Billy Ray (Achy Breaky Heart) Cyrus' daughter Miley Cyrus

Have a Happy Easter and remember to phone your Mom on Sunday!
