NFL Football

Well, the NFL season is set to get underway. The debate always comes up about the CFL vs. the NFL. Even though I do prefer the Canadian game because of the 3 downs and wider field which encourages more passing, and let's face it, passing is exciting, I don't want to go there. I'm just happy that we have more football options to watch. I love the game - when I know the players and the teams. Of course we get that with the CFL, but in Canada, we're so inundated with the NFL that we know the names and teams there too. College football is a little tough for me.

TV! Where do I find all the shows?!?!

I caught part of the Emmy's last night and was amazed by all these shows you never see promoted! I know that they're all HBO and Showtime shows that we can see in Canada on Movie Central, but I never know when. I know on network TV when the shows are on, but I have no idea when all these great shows like Mad Men, Dexter, Breaking Bad, The Closer! And the movies. Pacino as Jack Kervorkian - Thee Dr. Death. I would have watched that, but I'd never even heard of it until last night. Apparently it was quite good because they won awards!

Quitting your job - and making it memorable!!!

By now, you've read about Steven Slater and his dramatic departure as a flight attendant from Jet Blue Airlines. He's become quite the folk hero and has over 100,000 people who "like" him on a Facebook fan page dedicated to him.

Now, I don't know if the following is actually for real, but it's a pretty creative way to "give your notice". |Thanks to Jack Facebook Fan Roxanne Angell sending this. I needed to share with you.

World Cup Soccer Commercials

I know that it's World Cup Soccer, but the commercials are exceptionally good. Check them out here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/soccer/the-10-best-world-cup-commercials/article1590980/

Could American Idol be done?!?!

I hope so!!! I lost interest in this show the first season after they went to L.A. and they didn't show the losers who couldn't sing and basically made fools of themselves. Once they had "viable" contestants, it was BORING! Then, in season two, people went out of their way to suck, so, that was it - in my opinion, the show was done. How many of these Idol winners haven't used the following slogan this past week? "Do you want fries with that?" Where are they now?

The shot felt around the world!!!

I've watched alot of sports in my life and have seen some serious injuries - the Joe Theismann leg-snapping comes to mind - but I think every man who watched Sami Salo not only take a slap shot to his "nether region", but then writhe around on the ice, actually doubled over for a moment and felt sympathy pain. Now, I know there are women who will say, "Big deal!

My Flames are out, so here's why I’m not cheering for any teams in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs…

First off the Canadian teams –

Montreal – I hate that stupid "Ole Ole Ole" song.

Vancouver – I was stuck in traffic there once. Plus I can’t forgive those yellow, black and red jerseys.

The Senators – Uh, Ottawa in April?  Hello!!! It’s tax time – forget it.

Washington – Woody’s cheering for them.

New Jersey – The last time they won the cup, 250 people showed up at the parade? I don’t want to be part of that!

Philadelphia – It’s the city of Brotherly Love and I don’t have a brother!

Parking!!! Arrrrgh!!! What is the deal with some people?

OK. The snow is gone. You can pretty well see the lines on the ground in most parking lots defining each parking spot, yet I was out shopping and from the end of an aisle I spied a parking spot. I made my way down only to find that some jerk off backed their car in, but the entire driver side of their car was on and at places over the line into the open spot. There was no way I was going to fit my vehicle in there! So, short of smashing the window in frustration, you wonder what you can do. Alas!

New stadium

OK. Let's look at this new stadium as something that we need to do now. No more nay-saying. I know the cost is big - $450 million. We could sink another $6 million into Mosaic Stadium, but as the report said, we'd only get 10 years out of it - and that's it. So, 10 years from now when we can't do anthing with Mosaic, what now? What's the cost of a new stadium going to be now? 1 billion? We all know how prices escalate.

Olympic pondering?

Now that I've been watching the Olympics for what seems like months now, I'm starting to wonder why we call certain countries what we do. Like Germany. Why do we call it Germany when they call it Deutschland. Why don't we just call it Deutschland? Or Finland. They call it Suomi. Why don't we call them Suomi. Where did Germany and Finland come from? How about Poland. They call it Polska. Why don't we? Then it gets more confusing. The Russians still have Russia on their clothing, yet it should be Россия. It's just way too confusing.
